Lee Fox![]()
Lee Fox is originally from Georgia and moved to Florida in 1986. He is the Director of Dance for the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC). He has been teaching Ballroom, Latin, and Disco since 1978, and Country/Western since 1991. A former ballroom competitor, he has judged several competitions in the United States. He and his ballroom partner, Scott, competed in ballroom at the Gay Games in Amsterdam in 1998 and the Gay Games in Australia in 2002 making the finals both times. He is a member of Southern Country South Florida and has served as the choreographer/instructor for the Dream Team for six years and the SunDancers for five years. He and his country partner, Chris, were the first Championship winners in the IAGLCWDC Couples Competition in 1998 and have performed at many hoedowns and fundraisers. He is also one of the original members of Crossfire formed in 2004.
Bryan began dancing when he was about 7 years old. His parents, Ken & Ginette, knew their son had a long future ahead of him in dance, so they knew they had to support him and help him follow his dreams.
He started to attend classes in Northern Pennsylvania, and Upstate New York. By the mid 1990's Bryan discovered another love that also connected him to the dance community and that was choreography. Bryan says "my first dance was not my best in my eyes; in fact it was 60 counts, I don't know what I was thinking?" Never the less "Firehouse Boogie" as Bryan titled it was good enough for the July 1995 issue of CDL (Country Dance Lines) Magazine. This encouraged this young choreographer to hit the drawing board again. In the winter of 1996 with the help from Max Perry and Kathy Hunyadi, Bryan's second dance "Santa Claus Boogie" was published in the December 1996 issue of Linedancer Magazine. Through the years Bryan continued to choreograph new dances and then in the fall of 1999 enter some into competition in the U.C.W.D.C. (United Country Western Dance Council). This fazed out quickly, as around the same time Bryan discovered once again a new love, instruction. He says "There is just something about teaching, sharing my gift of dance and instruction; I feel in my heart it's meant to be." Bryan has many of his stepsheets and videos on his website. What can I say about myself? Well, I started line dancing about 7 years ago. I remember the first dance I ever tried to learn was Jo Thompson's "Midnight Waltz". I was so intrigued by the movement. Believe it or not, it took me 4 sessions to learn that dance. Things have changed dramatically in the short time I have been dancing. I find that the dances are much more demanding in precision and complexity. No more of just "Slap Dem Boots!" and "Kick up your heels". I like the more complex workings in the new line dances. I also like the fact that line dances are done to such a vast variety of music genres. They are a good way for students to learn Cha-Cha, Waltz, Swing or Two-Step...all without a dance partner. And most dances can be mastered in the privacy of your own living room.
I have written some dances that I think are good...others may be just "A Work in Progress". People say my dances are "Challenging." I am not sure if that is a good thing, but I will take it as a compliment. I have entered a few choreography competitions. Recently, my dance, "Soul Violins," took first place in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Another dance, "Just Imagine," took second place in the Phrased Country Category.
This year has been a very good one for me. I just came back from Las Vegas from the Vegas Dance Explosion. My two newest dances, "Global Warming" and "Working It," both took 1st place.
